Description
The Marinese is a rare species of olive. Our Reserve Organic Marinese extra virgin olive oil is derived from cold-pressing the best Marinese olives grown in the hills of the countryside province of Avellino, near the town of Paternopoli in the Campania region of southern Italy. Marinese is a local variety and thrives particularly well in the elevated area around Paternopoli, where the combination of chalky and volcanic terrain as well as the climate provides an excellent foundation for great olive oil. All this has led to its D.O.P. designation, which means Denominazione d’Origine Protetta—Protected Designation of Origin—a high honor in the country with the world’s highest standards for olive oil, in an area renowned for its olive oil for centuries.
FLAVOR PROFILE:
Marinese olives produce an outstandingly smooth olive oil, with a mellow and soft taste. Beautifully golden-yellow in color, our Marinese Reserve extra virgin is a fruity oil, with notes of bitter almonds, herbs and tomatoes, and finishes with a light spicy hint. The mild, smooth and subtle character of this oil is generally very appreciated by those not accustomed to bitter and more pungent character oils.
PAIRING SUGGESTIONS:
Thanks to its smooth character, our Organic Marinese Reserve extra virgin olive oil adds depth to virtually any dish. Use it to finish either raw or steamed vegetables to easily add healthy flavor. It is a great choice to use with fish, as its flavor won’t overpower. Pair our Organic Marinese Reserve with our Blackberry & Ginger or Pear Balsamic vinegars to dress dark green salads, or with our Bergamot & Lime White Balsamic vinegar for fresh summer greens.
