Amaretti (pronounced "am-ah-REHT-tee") is the Italian name for macaroons, and translates to little bitter things. These small, domed-shaped cookies that are crisp and crunchy on the outside and soft inside originated in Venice, Italy during the Renaissance period. Amaretti cookies are made from either ground almonds or almond paste, along with sugar and egg whites, and can be flavored with chocolate or liqueurs.
PAIRING SUGGESTIONS: Individually wrapped, our Amaretti cookies are a true taste of Italy. They are great for coffee bars; serve the Amaretti individually alongside an espresso or cappuccino. They also make a great component for desserts - crumble them up and sprinkle them atop grilled peaches or nectarines, or add them to the topping for a fruit crisp. Either way, you'll be addicted to these delicious beauties!
